Finger picking and slide guitar maestro Rick Payne’s performances have taken him to prime time TV, festivals and theatres throughout the UK, and on tour to Europe and the USA. He has provided the background music for a number of major BBC TV productions, including Whicker’s World and the Natural World and has also fea-tured on BBC Radio 2 with Nigel Kennedy and played live on BBC1’s ‘Holby City’.

Rick is a qualified guitar tutor who has also recorded a number of CDs including the noted ‘Blue River Blues’. He has been featured in Acoustic, Blues Matters, MOJO , Blues in Britain and other magazines.

To mark the 10th year anniversary celebrations The Animals and Friends with Spencer Davis and the King Earl Boogie Band will be headlining Blues at the Fort this September.
Friday 19th September line up:

Saturday 20th September line up:
A great boogie evening. Supporting the King Earl Boogie Band will be the popular Cadillac Kings and one of the top British Blues singers, Earl Green and the Right Time.

The Festival is held in a large marquee within the ramparts of Fort Purbrook on Portsdown Hill. This is a perfect location for the Blues at the Fort event which has now established itself as one of the area’s most popular Rhythm and Blues
Festivals. A range of real ales, lagers and wines will be available together with a selection of hot food. Free Parking.
It promises to be 2 great nights of Rhythm and Blues to celebrate 10 years of Blues at the Fort.

Having made a considerable impact these past five years in a crowded market place, we invite the charismatic vocalist Zoë Schwarz and her Jazz and Blues Quintet to a debut performance here at Havant Arts Centre. The line-up will include the individual and stylish guitar of Rob Koral, and the elegant piano of Hilary Cameron together with jazz legend Malcolm Creese-bass and Quinny Lawrence-drums. Expect some excursions into the blues field with re-workings of Willie Dixon, Ray Charles and Nina Simone together with some individual self-penned material and a tasteful, thoughtful nod to the Great American songbook.

As well as their jazz hats, Rob and Zoë also front the new and popular six-piece blues band called The Baddest Blues Band (Ever!)

Both born in Guyana, these old friends perform together for the first time in many years, showcasing solo renditions and collaborative pieces. John’s latest poetry collection is ‘We Brits’, shortlisted for the 2007 British Book Awards Decibel Writer of the Year Award and is a mesmeric performer. Keith conjures the sound of forty different flutes in a surprising sound experience not to be missed.

Michael & Ed have toured extensively together throughout the United Kingdom, Europe & Canada. Their sound (developed over 25 years) is heavily rooted in Mis-sissippi Delta & Chicago blues but the duo explore many different areas of roots and world musical styles. Michael likes to switch guitar several times and plays acoustically in a conventional slide manner and also lap-style, whilst Ed Genis plays a more fluent acoustic guitar.
